| Zeuhl-lovers in search of exo-Magma material would do well to consider this short-lived French band. Weidorje (the name means "Celestial Wheel") was formed when bassist Bernard Paganotti and keyboardist Patrick Gauthier, then-members of Magma, wished to splinter off and form a parallel band. Although financial and performance problems forced the band to capitulate early, this sole, self-titled album thankfully has survived as a document to the band's incredible musical ability. The side-long "Elohims Voyage" starts it off, with careening melodies and the trademark growling bass of Paganotti in the fore. "Vilna" showcases some intricate polyrhythmic keyboard work, courtesy of Gauthier and Jean-Phillipe Goude. "Booldemug"'s melody bounces about like a fireball in the hands of guitarist Michel Ettori. There are also two strong bonus live tracks, "Rondeau" and "Kolinda" included on this CD release (though be warned they aren't of the greatest sound quality). The music is mysterious, fiery, and multi-layered. Every self-respecting Zeuhl fan, especially fans of Magma circa their Live/Hhai period, needs this in their collection! review by Joe McGlinchey 1-29-00
